For well over 1000 years, we’ve been chasing around after falling water. So what’s so special about noise, frothy whiteness, and getting wet with the splashing?
Never not funny. 😅 My most recent splendid waterfall experience was dropping down from an An Teallach bivvy in the early morning sunshine towards Dundonell. Nothing like a crack of dawn dip in a waterfall. Only to find a larger, even nicer one 5 min down the trail surrounded by beautiful pine. Scotland never disappoints.
I gather you're in Berwickshire - I can't think of any great waterfalls immediately nearby. None feature in my '15 Short Walks in the Scottish Borders' which came out two days ago from Cicerone Press... (Note to self, must do some book plugging)
Thunderstorms separate out negatively charged H- ions and positive OH+ ones into separate parts of the cloud, doing so effectively enough to result in lightning. So yes, I imagine the fine spray from both waterfalls and showers may well carry negative ions. The suggestion that the nice feelings induced by showering come via negative ions isn't mine, it's off a wellness website. I have serious scepticism that negative ions in shower spray or waterfalls can affect the endocrine system. What could however have a beneficial effect on serotonin and endorphins would be Coleridge's 'Christabel' https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/43971/christabel .
Nowtl like a good waterfall! Interesting thoughts, curiouser and curiouser...

No point in a waterfall unless you fall into the water
I’ve recently moved to Scotland and have many such ‘falls’ to investigate!

Yes, I may have to go further afield to discover a really good waterfall. Although the sea has lots of spray on a windy day.
Ha! I like the idea of a shower giving off negative ions. Is that really likely do you think?
Lovely post, Ronald.
The soap opera analogy had me sniggering and the references to Wordsworth and Coleridge had me yearning to read more of their poetry.

Thanks for the link. It will be read with my new cup of tea.
